Tenuta di Murlo
An exclusive private country estate in Italy
The Murlo Estate offers the ultimate Umbrian countryside retreat, owned by the same family for generations and steeped in rich history.
Known for its awe-inspiring mountains and sprawling natural landscapes, the Estate is the perfect place where you can immerse yourself in the sounds and silence of thousands of hectares of natural reserve, where there are no eye sores and the landscape has remained unchanged for centuries.
LOCATION
The villas and cottages at Tenuta di Murlo are for those who are serious about getting away from it all. The estate covers thousands of hectares of pristine forested hills about 20 kilometers north of Perugia, and the accommodations are set deep in the rolling countryside on scenic overlooks accessible only by car along well-maintained but steep and twisting rural roads.
The estate’s villas and suites are reclaimed medieval farmhouses, towers and other rural outposts that pair original stone walls and rustic architectural details with sophisticated contemporary and classic interiors, making them the perfect retreat for those who crave the privacy and pace of country living but don’t want to skimp on comfort and style.
Quirky floor plans moulded to fit the historic buildings, seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living spaces, and careful curation of details from fabrics to fresh flowers by owner Carlotta Carabba Tettamanti create an invitingly relaxed yet refined atmosphere.
SERVICE
Pairing the independence of a private villa with the attentive service of a luxury hotel, Tenuta di Murlo offers a wide range of top-shelf services and amenities to keep guests engaged and indulged, even if they choose to spend their entire holiday within the confines of the estate. In addition to private pools, furnished gardens and al fresco lounge areas, and full housekeeping and gardening staff, the estate offers private chef services or catered dinners through its Il Caldaro restaurant.
The estate concierge can arrange anything from in-villa spa services, cooking lessons, wine tastings, or a lakeside picnic to day trips to nearby hill towns or a round of golf at the adjacent 18-hole Antognolla course. There is a free transfer service to get around the estate and between the villas and restaurant, and transportation for day trips and excursions is offered at an additional fee.
FOOD & DRINK
The excellent Il Caldaro restaurant is set at the entrance of the estate and is open for lunch and dinner. The menu highlights Umbrian specialties like local truffles, pork and the region’s flagship Montefalco wines; the fresh handmade pastas are especially memorable. In addition to eating in the dining room, guests can request a private chef service for meals prepared directly in their villa or dishes from the restaurant menu delivered at meal times.
A buffet breakfast is set up each morning in each villa and in the restaurant dining room for suite guests, and includes fresh pastries, fruit, juice, cereal, yogurt and other continental standards.
